R. Jason Smith

Jason Smith is an esteemed and dynamic educator, renowned for his exceptional mastery in seamlessly integrating cutting-edge technology into his instructional practices while fervently championing equitable principles. With an unwavering commitment to student success, Jason empowers learners of diverse backgrounds to excel in the digital landscape, leaving no room for educational disparities to impede their triumphs. With 19 years of invaluable experience in the Clark County District, including 12 years of specializing in science education and social studies instruction for 5th graders, Jason has honed his expertise through innovative approaches such as STEM instruction, The JASON Expedition, and forging partnerships with entities like the Nevada Department of Wildlife for the impactful Trout in the Classroom initiative.

During his tenure as a Technology Specialist, Jason demonstrated exceptional skills in seamlessly integrating technology into the curriculum. His responsibilities encompassed the integration of technology into K-5 classrooms, the creation and facilitation of professional development training, and the cultivation of student voices to encourage their active participation in their own education. Notably, Jason played a pivotal role in implementing and training the entire school community on G Suite apps, empowering educators and students alike to leverage technology for enhanced learning experiences.

Leveraging his background in broadcast journalism, Jason spearheaded an after-school video production program that equipped students with invaluable skills such as video editing, reporting, public speaking, camera operation, and directing. His dedication to nurturing well-rounded learners has been recognized through his selection for the prestigious Our Voice Academy in 2019.

In 2023, Jason's outstanding contributions and innovative approaches were acknowledged through several prestigious accolades. He was honored as the Technology Innovator of the Year by the esteemed Nevada Society of Innovators and Digital Educators (NVSIDE), cementing his status as a visionary leader in the field. Additionally, Jason's excellence in teaching garnered him the distinguished title of Teacher of the Month (February 2023) by KSNV (News 3 Las Vegas).

Jason, a native of Albuquerque, NM, has been a proud resident of Las Vegas since 1997. He holds a B.A. in Communications and a M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction from the esteemed University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). In addition to his role as an educator, Jason also serves as a dedicated Varsity football coach at Desert Oasis HS, exemplifying his commitment to fostering holistic student development within the Las Vegas community.
