AstroGriot
A Talk by Mike Lang (Chief Innovation Program Officer / VIRGIL, ed.Xtraordinary / The Intelligent Hoodlums)
About this Talk
In Western African tradition, a griot is an oral historian, poet, and storyteller who is charged with ensuring that the tales of their people are passed from one generation to the next. They use their voices to engage, to entertain, and to explore. The concept of using our voices as instruments is as old as humanity itself. How might we use inspiration from oral storytelling traditions of griots to encourage our learners to express their creativity, imaginations, and ideas about life?
One strategy we might explore is creating or curating audiograms. Audiograms allow us to use recorded audio and graphics we’ve designed in order to produce video that can be consumed in a single sitting. These mini-podcasts can be used by our learners as book reviews, essays, or special interest stories, for example. In this session, we'll walk through a design process that will help you understand and construct audiograms.
